即使是在東京，公共浴池也都隨著時代的變遷逐漸凋零，於是日本很多將公共浴池翻修成咖啡館的案例。
已經開張了88年的Koganeyu並沒有對時代屈服，在面對關閉或是翻新的抉擇中，他們發起了一項翻新浴池的群眾募資活動，2020年5月，他們在募資網站上籌到將近600萬日圓，超過1000名支持者的贊助，是他們最初目標的兩倍。終於有預算將原本老舊的公共浴室翻了一番，新的黃金湯終於近期重新開放。
入口處的入場卷販賣機，去除老舊的磁磚後，露出原本的水泥樣貌，讓細節變得好看
日本新銳建築師長坂常，與他開設的建築公司Schemata Architects，提出一些節省時間和增加成本效益的方法來進行翻新。像是維持浴池的大小，降低泥作施工比例，同時大量改造閒置空間，像是鍋爐房和倉儲區等等，並增設過往沒有的新功能，例如精釀啤酒吧（兼作DJ攤位）和蒸氣室。讓冠狀病毒仍在持續大流行的現在，能夠在不到兩個月的時間內重新開業。
